Mental health care is a nursing service that is covered by statutory health insurance with the aim of keeping people in good psychological and physical health and helping them maintain social balance and/or find a new one. Typical tasks include helping a person build and maintain a daily schedule, problem and crisis management, taking medication, housekeeping and self-care, promoting social contacts, and consulting with relatives.

Oncology is the medical specialization that deals with cancer. Oncology care includes all medical and technical tasks that can be performed at home by a specialized oncological nurse, such as chemotherapy, pain pumps, invasive catheters, blood transfusions, nutritional therapies, and wound management.

This means providing advice and support regarding healthy nutrition. People in special life situations with existing risk factors, such as diabetes, obesity, or other diseases, can prevent or reduce the effects of secondary diseases by making dietary adjustments. In the case of diabetes, diet is also part of the therapy. The services are only covered by statutory health insurance if they are provided by a qualified nutritionist or diabetes advisor.

Palliative care encompasses medical and nursing interventions as well as psychological, social, and spiritual support for people with terminal, life-threatening, and/or chronically progressive illnesses when it is no longer considered possible to treat the underlying illness. It is covered by statutory health insurance.

Dementia care is nursing care that is specifically adapted to meet the needs of clients with dementia and their relatives. It is provided by caregivers who have undergone additional training. Dementia can be very stressful on the entire environment surrounding the patient. Therefore, it is very important to receive professional consultation, especially in the early stages.

This applies to infusions via central or peripheral venous catheters that require special monitoring or preparation, such as blood reserves, chemotherapy, and others.

Rehabilitation in medicine is understood as the restoration of the patient's physical abilities on connection with a sickness, trauma or surgery.

With active rehabilitative care the focus is on daily enablement, activation, reintigration into daily activity and exercise.

Clarification of the need for care and the patient's environment, and planning of the necessary measures together with the doctor and the patient.

Advising the patient and, where applicable, those who are not professionally involved in nursing care, in carrying out nursing care, in particular in dealing with symptoms of illness, taking medication or using medical equipment, and carrying out the necessary checks.

Assistance with daily activities, such as personal hygiene, help with putting on/taking off compression stockings, eating, etc.

Assistance administering or monitoring prescribed medications.

All procedures prescribed by a physician and medically indicated, including: Measurement of pulse, blood pressure, and blood sugar; administering of medication; conduct of pain therapy; administering of injections and infusions; treating wounds; and more.

Measuring blood pressure/pulse, temperature, weight, breathing, and more.

Medically prescribed treatment of all wounds. Both surgical and chronic causes. The goals of wound management are documenting, cleaning, preventing, and fighting infections as well as the correct treatment and dressing of wounds.

The client's trusted employee or team will always be there to provide care and support. This creates a feeling of intimacy with patients, and they feel safe and secure in their home.

If necessary, nursing care providers can provide service during nighttime hours (after 11 p.m.).

Round-the-clock care for a person in need of care means that they can receive 24-hour care in their own home. A caregiver often lives together with the patient in the same house or apartment for two to three months and guarantees intensive and extensive care. As a rule, this service is not covered by statutory health insurance.

The patient can receive care at home during the day. Often, this provides respite care for primary caregivers who normally look after patients with dementia, disabilities, or some other type of handicap. As a rule, this service is not covered by statutory health insurance.

If necessary, nursing care providers can provide service from 5:00 p.m. to approx. 11:00 p.m.

Joint or substitute cooking of a balanced healthy meal.

The meal service is a supplementary Spitex service for people who can no longer shop and cook for themselves. It is not covered by health insurance. You may select from a menu of precooked offerings to be delivered to your home on request.

You also have the option to take meals at an external location, usually in your neighborhood and in a sheltered setting. As a rule, this service is not covered by statutory health insurance.

The chauffeur service is a supplementary Spitex service that is not covered by statutory health insurance. Drivers will take patients to therapy sessions or physician and hospital appointments.

Very individual. Can be an accompaniment for a cultural occasion or simply a visit to the sick persons home. Usually this is not covered by the health insurance.

If the sick person cannot be left alone, it is ensured that the patient receives care while relatives are absent. As a rule, this service is not covered by statutory health insurance.

Social counseling is a supplementary Spitex service that is not covered by statutory health insurance that informs and advises older people and their relatives concerning financial, legal, and social issues that they may have.

If the patient’s freedom of movement is temporarily or chronically restricted, the patient can benefit and avoid deterioration of their condition if they receive an attendant to help them get around or some other mobilization assistance that is tailored to their needs. Which services are covered by the health insurance provider must be clarified in each individual case.

If you can no longer handle bills or ongoing administrative paperwork in general, a social worker can usually help you to sort it out. This is not a service covered by statutory health insurance.

These are volunteer women and men who visit people who would like company but who do not have a large social network. Visits can be either one-time or on a regular basis. This service is usually free.

The patient can resolve various situations at a round table discussion. It often involves a complex care situation involving Spitex.

This includes the rental of aids (e.g., devices) to treat people with health problems. Health aids include, for example, pull-up bars, cushion bed railings, walking sticks, patient tables, positioning pillows, bedside chairs, walkers, or wheelchairs. The rental costs range from less than one franc to several francs per day, and they are not covered by health insurance.

There are many providers of emergency call systems who coordinate Spitex’s rapid response and notification so that in an emergency a nurse can assess the situation on site and initiate further steps, if necessary.

The patient may receive care at an external institution during the day. Often, this provides respite care for primary caregivers who look after patients with dementia, disabilities, or some other type of handicap. As a rule, this service is not covered by statutory health insurance.

This service offers temporary respite care if relatives who regularly provide care can no longer act as caregivers or if the situation has changed quickly and the patient’s safety is no longer guaranteed.

Trustee service, tax return completion service, clarification of the patient’s financial situation, and social insurance benefits

These exist for various conditions (dementia, Alzheimer's, ALS, MS, and other diseases). It can be very relieving and encouraging to talk to other people who are affected by the same diseases. Many relative caregivers find that the feeling of not being alone gives them additional strength to provide further care for their relative.
